We had a fantastic day yesterday. First up, bright and early, I got my learners permit and scheduled my driving test for 5 weeks time. Easy date to remember - Jesse’s birthday!
Afterwards, we packed a picnic lunch and hit the highway with the boys for a few hours of fun and silliness in the snow at Mt Charleston. What an amazing place! The boys regressed a few years, Ellie developed a limp which mysteriously shifted from one paw to the other ((“Please, Mummy, I don’t want to walk anymore!!”) over the course of the afternoon, and everyone wound up happy and slightly damp.
After a trip home and a quick and easy dinner, J and I headed out to see the ‘dress rehearsal’ of the Zowie Bowie lounge act at The Palms. It’s definitely a good show and Chris and Marley are lovely. They came around and introduced themselves between acts and then threw shout-outs to many of us, adding a lovely personal touch to the night.

So the Bret Michaels concert was pretty short. He didn’t start until close to 8.30pm and it was over and done with by 9.45pm, making it not much over an hour. We were told it was a last minute booking and the place wasn’t exactly full, but if we hadn’t been gifted the tickets, I would’ve been slightly annoyed.
The duration aside, it was a good show and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Surprisingly, he only performed a couple of his solo songs with the rest being made up of Poison staples and a couple of covers. We also got a treat in the form of Edwin McCain (in the photo to the left) who came out and performed I’ll Be as well as a couple of songs with Bret.

J surprised me with tickets to see Bret Michaels at The Palms on Saturday night.
Is it sad that I’m really excited?

Yep, we’re starting fresh for the new year with a brand new domain!
Why? Because now that I’ve been in the US a while, I’m not nearly as jaded as I used to be. Still an alien ... just not a jaded one. Of course there are some things that still make me go “Huh?!”, like the slot machines in the grocery store (free drinks while you play!) and the hundreds of people who sit like stunned mullets pushing button after button at the casinos.
I’ve done some fun stuff. Furnishing the house was a kick. Reacquainting myself with the in-laws I’ve barely seen over the years and meeting the new additions to the family as well as some family I’ve never met has been fantastic. I saw KISS live in concert for my birthday, as well as heading out to a couple of other shows. I’ve even met up with people from New Zealand!
Some stuff - not so fun. Like re-learning how to drive on the wrong side of the road (and car!) and being forced to take all the drivers licensing tests again.
Anyway - you’ll learn more about my US exploits as we go along but in the meantime, please bear with me while I sort out all the kinks. And oh, there will be kinks!

I have been terribly slack at updating around here, but the good news is that we arrived in the US without too much hassle (just a long wait at secondary) and are busily settling in to our new life.
Two months on, I can say we’re pretty happy.
For the most part, everyone I’ve met have been wonderful and friendly. Nobody has asked if I’m Australian. Instead, I’m asked if I’m from the UK. I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing ![]()
Right now, I’m going to be working on a new look for the site and updating all my templates etc. No more vicarious living for this kiwi girl!

We just got back from the KISS 35 Alive concert at the Palms. It was a double treat, serving as my birthday present and my first official American concert.
What an awesome night! We were right in front of the stage and I am still buzzing!
