More About The Site Owner

Tracey (GnomeGrrl) was born in Invercargill, a small city at the bottom of New Zealand. She lived there until a few months after her marriage and moved to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1999. After 2 years, she and J went back to Invercargill.

In 2006, it was decided that the move should be made to the US. Las Vegas was chosen because J’s parents and brother lived there and it was thought the transition would be easier.  J left in December 2006 and after quite a long time grappling with US immigration, Tracey and the boys finally hopped a plane and became legal permanent residents of the US on August 10, 2008.

Tracey loves to fiddle with web design, is just a little bit hooked on World of Warcraft and loves animals. Prior to moving to the US, she was the proud owner of 2 dogs, several cats (at one point, she had 11!) and goldfish. She’s also owned pet rats, rabbits and a horse. She is currently not working, but is actively looking for a job and considering going back to school. She fully intends to become a US Citizen when she’s able to apply in 2011, but her heart will always be close to New Zealand.

25 Random Things About Me ...

Yes. It’s kind of the meme thing, but I’m not tagging anybody.

1. I once won a can-can competition while on vacation (no, it wasn’t in Vegas).
2. I married J a week after meeting him in person.
3. I hand code all my own html and css.
4. I think I’m far too young to have such old men for kids.
5. I regularly forget my own age and put myself a year or two younger than I actually am.
6. Until I met J, I never wanted to so much as visit the US.
7. I haven’t weighed myself in many years, and I doubt I will ever start. How I feel about myself is more important than what the scales say.
8. I rarely wear makeup. Or skirts.
9. I have a lot of makeup for someone who rarely wears it (but I only own one skirt).
10. I used to tap dance competitively. My mother still has the shoes, the sequined outfits and the cups and medals to prove it.
11. I broke in my sisters pony.
12. I have owned 11 cats at the same time.
13. I believe you can love someone unconditionally, but you don’t always have to like them.
14. I think the best cure for a headache is to plug in my iPod and blast music at great volume. Needless to say, most of my headaches are stress related.
15. To get over my fear of rodents, I bought the kids pet rats. It worked. I’m thinking of doing the same thing with snakes.
16. Our backyard growing up was more like a zoo.
17. No matter how many times I see slot machines at the grocery store, I still shake my head.
18. I name random things - like cars and GPS systems.
19. I have spent a total of 29 months living in a different country to J since we married - all of it going through US immigration.
20. I’m not ashamed of my body’s little ... errr ... expressions. As my Aunt says, if you don’t fart, you die.
21. I’m a sucker for 80s music - the glammer the band, the better.
22. I developed asthma when I was 22 and outgrew it when I was 28.
23. I bruise so easily that J regularly leaves marks and I hardly never know where the bruises come from (I blame J for all of them).
24. I start singing to random comments and phrases and I always change the lyrics to songs.
25. I once made J do Star Spangled Banner at a karaoke bar.
